With a heavy heart, we mourn the passing of Verna Lynn Rhodes, 77, known affectionately as Lynn, who departed from this world on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Lynn was born on September 20, 1946, in Mount Hope, Kansas. She was a dedicated librarian for 25 years in Nevada and had a passion for reading and researching topics close to her heart.
Lynn's journey was filled with love and companionship as she married the love of her life, Carl Rhodes, in 1974. They blended their families and shared a unique love as "the odd ducks" who swam in the same pond. Lynn's courage and determination were evident in her advocacy for her beliefs and politics.
Her dedication extended to her family as she lovingly cared for her husband until his passing in 2009. Lynn cherished listening to George Strait music and embraced a simple life close to nature. Despite never having running water or conventional electricity, she found joy in living off the land and eventually transitioning to solar power.
A proud moment for Lynn was volunteering as an EMT in Searchlight, Nevada, showcasing her selflessness and commitment to helping others. Her creativity and spirit will be cherished by all those who knew her.
Lynn leaves behind cherished memories with her surviving family: her son Donald Rhodes and his wife Dawn; three sisters - Carol, Diane, Rise; two grandchildren - Emily Rhodes, Eric Rhodes; and one great grandson - Jonah Rhodes. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Vernon Kraus.
In honor of Lynn's service to the country, it is worth noting that she also served in the United States Army. Her legacy of generosity, love, and unwavering spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
As we say our goodbyes to Lynn Rhodes, we take comfort knowing that she has gone to be with the Lord. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
