Temple

Maria Carmen Cuellar, affectionately known as "Tita," was born on July 16, 1967, in Neulta, Guanajuato, Mexico. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Monday, February 24, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family.

Maria's early education took place at Tierra Y Libertad, where she developed her strong work ethic, which would define her for the rest of her life. She immersed herself in labor from a young age, working in the fields to help support her family. In 1993, she made the courageous decision to move to San Diego, California, where she met the love of her life, Jose Delgado. Together, they built a loving home and family, celebrating the birth of their first daughter in 1994. Following this, the family moved to Junction, Texas, where Maria continued to work tirelessly as a hotel cleaner and gathered pecans for local shops. In 1997, the family welcomed their son, Jose, and in 2002, they celebrated the arrival of their youngest child, Brisa. The Delgados settled in Temple in 2001, where Maria’s role as a caring housewife and mother flourished.

Maria devoted her life to her family and was an integral part of her daughters' food truck business, supporting them wholeheartedly. She was a proud mother who cherished her role and had a special bond with each of her children. Known for her straightforward personality and good humor, she embraced life with an unapologetic authenticity that resonated with those around her. Maria’s distinctive nature shone through in her relationships with her children, often reminding her son, Jose, that he was her favorite.

Maria found immense joy in her hobbies, including cooking and tending to her garden, where she grew fruits that reminded her of her childhood. Her love of family extended to her pets and the family’s fruit trees—apple, pecan, and peach—which brought her great joy. She frequently showcased her resale items at the Belton Market, further sharing her love for the fruits of her labor.

She took pride in her heritage and worked diligently to instill this pride in her children, believing that this connection to their roots was among her proudest accomplishments. Maria was also a devoted member of Our Lady Guadalupe Catholic Church, where she nurtured her faith and community ties.
