James Monroe Payne, 67, known affectionately as “Uncle Jimmy” to his family and friends, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, in Temple, Texas, after a courageous battle with cancer that unfortunately offered no cure. He was born on August 28, 1956, in his hometown of Bryan, Texas to Mr. Albert Monroe Payne and Evelyn (Forsthoff) Payne.

James’ journey through life was marked by his dedication and hard work. He began his career by enlisting into the United States Navy in Bryan, Texas in 1974 and reenlisted in July of 1978, serving as a System Organizational Maintenance Tech. For his service, he was honored with the Battle "E" Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal.. He took the position at  Easterwood Airport in College Station which led him to then  further his education as an aircraft mechanic contractor. His exceptional skill set eventually led him to Beeville, where he contracted for various positions that allowed him to showcase his talents.

Education was important to James, and after graduating from Bryan High School in 1974, he furthered his studies by obtaining an Associates in Aircraft Mechanics in San Antonio. His passion for aircraft mechanics stemmed from a young age and remained a significant part of his life.

A man of many interests and hobbies, James found joy in the simple things life had to offer. Whether he was enjoying long car rides with music playing or bringing laughter to those around him with his good sense of humor, he lived life to the fullest. James also had a deep appreciation for the open road and dedicated himself to supporting others that aided those in need.

James' proudest accomplishments included obtaining his schooling for Aircraft Mechanics and exploring new places. A man of faith, he was baptized at a young age and became a member of the Northside Church of Christ after he moved to Temple, Texas. His commitment to his beliefs shone through in all aspects of his life.

James is survived by three brothers: Roger Payne (Beverly), Timothy (Sandy) Douglas Payne (Sandra), one sister Charlotte Schendel (David), as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will continue to cherish his memory.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert Monroe Payne and Evelyn (Forsthoff) Payne.
