In Loving Memory of Gwendolyn Joyce (Hansen) Swank "Gwen," age 76, of Plano, Texas, a cherished mother and friend, who passed away peacefully at her home on December 14, 2023. Born on April 26, 1947, in Austin, Texas, Gwen led a rich life surrounded by family and diverse interests.
Growing up in Austin, Gwen discovered her love for music and playing for the junior high choir. She continued to perform during her high school years at Lanier High School. Gwen's musical ability brought joy not only to herself but also to those fortunate enough to hear her play. An accomplished pianist, she generously shared her talent by giving lessons to her grandchildren and their friends.
In the years following high school, Gwen served as a secretary for a prominent power company, her local church, Austin National Bank, and the Texas Railroad Commission. Her dedication and warm personality made her indispensable to those around her.
Married to Ron Swank for 56 years, Gwen and Ron relocated to Dallas early in their marriage, where they bought their first home and started a family. She took pride in motherhood, welcoming her sons Steve in 1971 and Tony in 1976.
Beyond her family, Gwen found joy in gardening, cultivating a green thumb, and expressing her love through cooking, especially during family gatherings. Traveling with Ron, they explored various countries and toured the US in their motorhome.
Gwen is survived by Ron Swank of Rockwall, Texas, her sons, Steve Swank of Seattle, Washington, and Tony Swank, along with his wife Kelli of Rockwall, Texas. She leaves behind six grandchildren: Isabella, Danielle, Lauren, Alexander, Jack, and Olivia Swank. A devoted lover of Dalmatians, Gwen is also survived by her dog, Mily.
A graveside service to honor Gwen's beautiful life will be held on December 27, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Wilson Valley Cemetery in Little River-Academy, Texas.
