Daniel Gale Clay, 72, affectionately known as Dan, passed away at his home in Belton, Texas on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. His life, rich with experience and marked by love, will be remembered and celebrated by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was born on November 7, 1951, in Charles City, Iowa, to Mr. Gale Clay Jr., and Mrs Gloriamae (Fouss) Clay. Daniel's journey through life was one defined by passion, and unwavering honesty. He attended Roy J. Watson High School in Colorado Springs, CO, following which he fulfilled his calling to serve in the US Navy after completing his education. In April 1969, he honorably enlisted serving on the USS SHIELDS (DD-596) and earning his National Defense Service Medal.
Daniel's career was one of significance and impact, as he immersed himself in the automotive industry, specializing in outside sales until his retirement. His work ethic, coupled with his genuine nature, left a lasting impression on all his colleagues and clients.
In his personal life, Daniel was a man of many interests. Amongst his hobbies he cherished shooting, billiards, and playing rounds of golf with his son-in-law and friends, He found immense joy in cruising on his Harley with his many friends. He is a proud member of the American Legion and American Legion Riders D28, held various officer positions including; Past-Post Commander #593 and District #28 Commander. He was also a dedicated participant in bingo nights and shared countless moments of laughter and bonding during his activities.
Daniel's warm and abrasive personality shone through his interactions with others. Raised Catholic, he embodied kindness and sincerity, never meeting a stranger and always speaking his truth with unwavering honesty.
Among his proudest accomplishments was his enduring marriage of 52 years to his childhood sweetheart, Deniece M. (Simmons) Clay. Together, they raised two daughters, Elicha Moyer and Tricha Clay; son-in-law, E.J Moyer and welcomed the joys of grandparenthood with grandchildren Matthew Clay Moyer; Nicholas Moyer along with his wife Dana, and one great-granddaughter, Maizie Kay Moyer.
In mourning his loss, Daniel is survived by his loving wife, Deniece, his daughters, and son-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchild, as well as his brother Duane Harrison, Duane's wife Julia, and a host of extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Gale Clay Jr. and Mrs. Gloriamae (Fouss) Clay.
